Captain Ilas - He was Hugh first captain, which he became fast friends with. Also it appears that he like to watch people fly and from that he would write poems based upon who they were. That is why Ilas knew when he had his first conversation with Hugh, he didn't to have the most kill like he said but in truth all he want to do was to fly.

Episode 11 – 11 – Summary

This is the second extra episode that tells us of the life that Hugh lived before he meet Dalian and what lead him to drive out to his Grandfather's place. It starts off with him having a dog fight with Lieutenant Welling, he seems to be someone of importance but nothing really more is mention other than he has some skill as a pilot. This leads us to Hughs first encounter with Captain Ilas, although quickly sees through what Hugh was doing. Ilas tells that he know what kind of person he is by reading Hugh the poem he made of him and after that they become fast friends.

The we fast-forward to a later point in the story where some German ace is telling poems about the lives of his enemies before they die in a hail of bullets. Which the last pilot that is left alive is Huey, and through him we learn that this pilot is actually Ilas. Although at this point it is unknown why he is now flying for the enemy also it seems like his whole personality has change as well. Where earlier he said it was wrong to count how many people that you kill but now it seems to be he is contradicting what he said earlier. When see this odd change of scene there is something discovered from this red version of Dalian which is that all these phantom books, are actually created by people. While it seems that the easiest way to created them is through madness of war. The reason being is that the thing that is required to make a phantom book is that it needs to be created with strong enough emotions that burn.

Then as we approach the climax, we return to Ilas as the faceless phantom as he tries to complete his book this is on the verge of becoming a phantom book. With this incomplete book he manages to summons some kind of demon made of wind, that destroys most of the planes but Hugh's. Which it turns out that Hugh defeated the demon by reading from the book of poems that Ilas was original writing. It turns out from the conversation that Ilas died in a bombing raid along with his wife. That some how he was brought back to life. That all Hugh wanted to do is say one last goodbye before he sends him off. What we later learn is that he was brought back to life by the bartender which appears to go by the mysterious name of professor. Then we see Hugh burning Ilas poems and not realizing why he is doing it. However when Armand sees what he was doing, he tells Hugh that if he needs to get rid of something than give it to him. Then as he walk away he toss his medal to him and says he doesn't need it. Then we see the letter that leads him to the point of the very first episode.
