Episode 8 – Summary
In the starting part of the episode there aren't a lot of things that are important to the plot, but one thing that is important to note is that Jirou was a suspicious of the reason that the went to there in the first place. The point being that if it was to cure him of his gynophobia it could have been done anywhere, also the fact that Nagare didn't try harder to bring them home. The first part up until the point of the festival was done more for humor than anything else.
When thing really got back on track was when Jirou question where Subaru was, and all Kanade did was point him off towards the mountains. During Jirou's trek up the mountain path Nagare appeared to stop him. Which was later was forced to stop because of Kanade. Which allowed for Jirou to continue up the mountain to meet Subaru. Which cause him the realize the real reason that Kanade didn't want to go on a trip with her parents was so that Subaru didn't miss visit with her mother on the anniversary of her death. Also she didn't want Jirou to know why, but Jirou insist that she should have because it would be easier on her if she would just share her pain. Then after Subaru introduces Jirou to her mother he pass out from his gynophobia reaching it's limit.
The episode ends with this paintball war, where the winner gets to kiss the winner of the beauty pageant which happens to be Subaru. Although the reason that Jirou enters is to win the giant sheep plushie, because he remembers how much Subaru like the one that he got her. However through a strange turn of events, things didn't turn out the way he expect with Nakaru's “stripping drunken fist”. Which could only be stopped by Kanade holding his glasses hostage. Then Kanade action leaded to her and Jirou being the only people left so she uses his gynophobia against him, resulting her being declared the winner. The episode ends with a nice scene with Jirou and Subaru, as well as Subaru deciding that she doesn't want to be just friends anymore. However the message just didn't get through to Jirou.
