Before anything can really get start,
they need somewhere to get settle in at. It turns out that the Maou
already had somewhere in mind, she just need Yuusha to decide to help
her before Maou would set anything in motion. Although it turns out
the location that the Maou choose surprise Yuusha he was expecting
something further north where it is already prospering, when the Maou
choose a starting settle in the poor south. Maou's reasoning is that
in south they would be more willing to accept new ideas, because
their need for survival would outweigh any pride that they might
have.
This leads us to meeting a new
character called Maid-Cho or Head Maid, is seems that the original
author of this series just could be bother with think up names for
his characters and has them just go by their title. Another
interesting thing is Head Maids view on their agreement, that they
are married. Since it in the contract of shared ownership of one
another, with no time limit being set. That means in other-words
marriage. Once that little fact is out of the way, the Maou goes into
her plan on how to change things.
Her first idea is changing the current
farming method, to a new one that doesn't allow for the land to rest.
The current method is use the land to grow wheat and barely with
having it rest for a season before switching to the other crop. Her
new method is add in two new crops in between the normal growing
phase instead of just letting it rest. Clovers for the pigs to feed
on, which also cause them to fertilize the soil. Turnips to have feed
for the pigs during the winter. This would allow for you to increase
the amount of meat that you would be able to keep on hand.
Although it turns out that the
village chief isn't to keen on the idea of taking advice from a
woman. This leads to them going home to rest after their long day,
but as they are waiting for dinner to be prepared. Maou basically has
to negotiate with Yuusha so that he will lay down next to her.
However just as thing are going her way they get some uninvited
guests. It turns out that some runaway serfs are hiding in the barn
as they runaway. Although after lengthy discussion about what to do,
and on Maid's views on what makes a person different from a bug. They
decide in the end to take them in, to assist the Head Maid in her
duties.
The next day Maou take actions to have
the leaders of the village be more accepting of her ideas, by
starting up a school to start teaching the children of the village.
The reason for this is by investing time in the villages youth, this
will lead them to be more accepting of her ideas. Things end with
Yuusha taking a look back on his life, although he spent all this
time trying to achieve peace. He begins to question what will be
waiting for him when peace is achieve and there are no battle left to
fight, Since fighting is the only life he has ever known.
