It seems that the red clan motivation goes far deeper than just
seeking revenge, this becomes clear as we get to look back Totsuka's
life before he died. Although one of the interesting facts about him
is how much he seems to be like Shiro, in his carefree ways. In the
beginning it seems that Mikoto didn't really like him because he felt
that Totsuka was an annoyance. Although later on we see that through
his persistence Totsuka became accept by Mikoto. Then over time
Totsuka is what held everyone together, through his carefree spirit.
This is why when he was murder, that it drove them over the edge
because of the injustice that they felt. In seeing what leaded up to
Totsuka death their action may in fact be justified.
Then in parallel to Totsuka's final moments, you have Shiro
questioning his existence. Then with this Shiro start to encounter
that fact that people are forgetting him. He first encounters this
when he calls Kukiri to get direction to the firework shop because he
can't read his own writing. Although before that Neko acts strange,
although when he does call her she doesn't even know who he is. This
lead him to try and valid his existence by calling his parents, but
it seems the number he called isn't in service. Then when he goes to
his house, he instead ends up in a sports stadium.
This leads to the reason why Shiro was so desperate to justify his
existence, because now he beliefs that he never existed to begin
with. This leads him to think back to all the people he talk to when
he was searching for proof and how they say he wasn't there. Shiro
think now that it is possible that he killed this person, and hopes
to have Kuro end his suffering by killing him. However he refuses
because he isn't certain of anything. That they just need to wait and
find out the truth, because there is more going on than just a simple
murder. In fact I belief that there is some sort of link between
Shiro and Totsuka. Since their personalities are so similar,
everything seems to hint at the fact that one day Shiro just came to
exist. This seems to point at one simple truth who is Shiro.
