High School DxD - Episode 05

Episode – 05 characters

Matsuda & Motohama – They are Hyoudou Issei's friends from mid-school, on graduation they decide to enroll in Kuou Academy because they just change from an all girls school to co-ed. The reason they want this is that there would be high population of women to men, so that they could fulfill their dream of having a harem.

Kiba Yuuto – Is extremely popular with all the girls, and because of this he is envied by Issei, Matsuda, and Motohama. Although it seems that he will play a larger role later on.

Rias Gremony – Is the President of the Occult Research Club, and another key character in the story. However for some deeper reason she has been keeping a close eye on Hyoudou Issei.

Hyoudou Issei – Is overtly perverted, and has some strange dream about being a harem king. Which if you ever watch Yu-Gi-Oh, the joke that the writer is making is quite apparent. Although after he dies he has a slight change of heart. It will be interesting how much he maturates over the course of the series.

Amano Yuuma – She is the girl that asks Issei out early in the episode, although you would have to ask what kind of respectable woman would date a known pervert. However the reason is later revealed.

Souna – There isn't much that we know about her other than she is close to Rias Gremony or at least the gremony family.

Himejima Akeno – She is the Vice-president of the Occult Research Club, and her personality is a refection of the Yamato Nadeshiko “Ideal Japanese Woman”. Although other than this not much is revealed.

Toujo Koneko – First year student at this part of the Occult Research Club, and is classified as a loli character that is popular with men and woman.

Dounashiki – He is the second fallen angle that Issei ran into in the first episode, since they name him. It is likely that he will be making a second appearance.

Ashia Argento – She is a nun that has recently moved into the city that Issei lives in, but the strange thing is that, the only church in town doesn't have a Priest so no-one see a point in going there. Other than this brief introduction not much more is given out about her.

Freed Serzen – Is the Priest that works for the strange church in town, although he is a very violent person. That doesn't seek so save the soul of the people that make contracts with devils but seeks to kill them before they can make them. It appears that the reason the priest is so strange is that he works for the fallen angles.

Mystel – Is another one of the fallen and nothing more in-depth was given. Although she isn't very important since she dies in the fifth episode.

Episode – 05 Summary

Things continue with Issei trying to save Ashia. Issei charges forward to reach her while Kiba and Koneko engage the priest that are guarding her. Although it looks like Ashia isn't as dead as first believe, but the interesting thing is how easily Reinare turn over Ashia. Although she isn't willing to turn over Ashia scared gear “Twilight Healing”, then as things are continuing Kiba reminds Issei that they can't stay here much longer fighting them off as they are. This cause Issei to pick up Ashia and run but he tells them to follow as soon as they are able. Once he is able to set Ashia down she says that she was glad to meet him even-though it was for a short time. This time it looks like she is gone for good, but while Issei is morning Ashia's death Reinare appears and mocks him for it.

This act of Reinare mocking Ashia, sets Issei off and starts the fight between him and her. However even-though he has got stronger than the last time they meet, he still isn't strong enough to beat her. This leads to her boasting about why she killed Ashia that is was for reaching a higher rank even-though her superiors were against the idea, while informing him about the fact that the sacred gears were never meant for humans because they bring misfortune to them. This angers Issei even more because he was Ashia as such a kind girl that he can't see why she would have to suffer. In his desire to beat her he prays, but since he is a devil he can no-longer pray to god so he prays to the “Devil King” (maou). This focus allows for his gear to evolve another level which allows for him to beat Reinare.

It turns out that just as he does this Kiba congratulates him on his victory, and informs him that this is something he needed to do on his own and Rias didn't want them to interfere. Then as the rest of the devils are arriving, Koneko comes in dragging Issei ex-girlfriend behind her. Rais explains that Issei isn't twice critical like Reinare thought but is the “boosted gear” nick-named “the infernal dragons right-arm”. Than is one of the legendary gears that is said to have the power to kill god. Realizing that she no-longer has any chance in winning she tries to convince him that all the things that she did was not of her own will but were force upon as her duty as a dark angle. Although Issei doesn't buy it but at the same time he can't bring him self to finish her, so he asks Rias if she could do it for him.

Although this bring about one final question about what is he going to do about Ashia since she now dead and ask Rias if there is anything that she can do for her. It turns out there is something that she can do for her and that is turn her into a devil like the rest of them. The piece that she uses is that bishop a bit ironic considering that Ashia use to be a nun. Also she alludes to that fact that the bishops power is to heal. In the end it turns out that this saves Ashia, that now it is Issei job to look after her since she is the news Devil. This leads to more discussing on the piece the next day with Rias, it turns out that Issei believes that there are going to be seven more pawns like him, but it turns out that to turn him it required all eight of the pawns. That once she realize this she had no choice but to turn him, because it is so rare to find a human with that much potential. The question now where is the series going to be going with all the Dark angles dead.
