Things get rolling with another
flashback from when Aika was still alive. It seems the reason that
Yoshino and Aika where dating in secret was because of her brother.
That he would never approve of anyone, even if the person was his
best friend. This is why Aika was always so cruel to Yoshino, because
she wanted to create an appearance that Yoshino would be the last
person she would ever date. Like the saying goes it is always darkest
at the base of the lighthouse. Although Mahiro's reason on why he
never wanted her to date is unclear, it could be there is a deeper
reason behind his actions.
Anyways things fast-forward to the
present where Yoshino is getting an explanation of what is going on.
That everything is happening is because of a power struggle between
Hakaze and Samon, this leaded up to the Hakaze being imprison on a
deserted island. While Samon goes about releasing these fruits, this
release cause the Kurogane sickness or to say the sickness is a
side-effect of the fruit being released. Although how these fruits
are suppose to give Samon greater power is still unclear, but
stopping it is the bases of Hakaze and Mahiro's relationship. That he
will stop her brother and in return she will help him kill his
sisters murder. Then from here they explain how Mahiro was able to
use magic, it appears that Hakaze cast her magic on some items before
she was sealed away. That the magic can be release from the item only
so many times before the magic that was sealed up is no-longer usable.
The from here Yoshino and Mahiro go
there separate ways, that Yoshino has people waiting for him. That
this is his path that he must walk but he will give him some of the
talisman to protect him. Although they are only for basic things like
super-speed, defense, and protection against kurogane sickness. Then
as Yoshino is making his way out of the city he has an unfortunate
encounter with Yamamoto, which result in him taking cover in his
school. However Yamamoto's plan to smoke him out doesn't go so well
for her when he is waiting for her on the roof. That in the end they
work out some kind of deal, but the terms are never explained at
least not yet.
Also after Yamamoto is dealt with, it
appears that Yoshino has no intentions on abandoning Mahiro. Although
Aika told him many times that nothing good will come from associating
with him. That while Mahiro's goal is to kill his sisters murderer,
it is not Yoshino's goal it seems like he himself doesn't even know
but he believe that if he follows Mahiro that he might just find it.
It seems that Yoshino and Mahiro are equally messed up, that they are
just as different from on another as they are similar. It should be
interesting how thing continue to unfold as the series progresses.
