Shingeki no Kyojin - ep22

Now as Levi and Mikasa pursue the Female Titan, Levi question if Eren is still alive. The to this end, if he assumes that Mikasa is telling the truth that the Titan goal was capture Eren and not eat him then there is hope in getting him back. That is why he declares that they are not going to even try to kill the Titan back as long as it has the ability to harden it's skin then killing it is impossible. That if they are going to rescue Eren, then they must throw away any idea of killing it. This leads us to see Levi's true skill when he tears it apart. However when Mikasa see it in it's weaken state she tries to go in for the kill ignoring what Levi said earlier. This decision almost get her kill but is save by Levi at the last second however this results in him breaking his leg but also allows for him to complete his initial goal of rescuing Eren.

Now with Eren safe the battle was a bit disappointing because there was hope that Eren would transformed again and with the help of the others they would have been able to deal with the Female Titan permanently or at least learn her identity to that everything that they lost was not in-vain. Although in continuing with the theme of the series where humanity is fighting a losing battle, they return home with having loss even more. It turns things are not going to be that simple since some of the soldiers disobey their orders to go back for the dead body of their friend. That because of this act they brought the Titan back with them. Which leads to even more pointless loss of life, that to escape they need to discard all the dead that they were going to bring back with them. Now going back empty handed is very bad for Eren since with the loss of credibility of the Recon Corp it looks like Eren is going to get dissected, that maybe Levi did him a disservice by saving him.
